Specialised Substitute Residential Care (SSRC)

Proudly Supporting Children and Families Through Specialised Substitute Residential Care (SSRC)

Abled Care and Nursing Services proudly provides Specialised Substitute Residential Care (SSRC) in line with NSW regulations, offering safe, structured, and well-monitored overnight care for children and young people aged 7–17 who need to stay away from their usual home for three or more nights within a seven-day period.

As an SSRC-approved provider, Abled Care and Nursing Services delivers care that supports families during times of respite, behaviour support needs, emergencies, or NDIS-funded arrangements while also ensuring every child’s wellbeing, safety, and stability remain the priority.

What Is Specialised Substitute Residential Care?

Specialised Substitute Residential Care (SSRC) is a formal care arrangement between a parent or guardian and an approved provider. In this arrangement, a child receives care away from their usual home for three or more nights in any seven-day period ensuring structured, safe, and consistent support, just like the child-centred care approach followed by Abled Care and Nursing Services.

SSRC may be provided for:

  1. Respite support
  2. Behaviour support programs
  3. Emergency or short-term care needs
  4. NDIS-funded accommodation and support

In addition, all overnight stays delivered by Abled Care and Nursing Services are recorded on the SSRC register, ensuring transparency, shared oversight, and appropriate monitoring across all providers involved.

Types of SSRC We Support

Abled Care and Nursing Services can support children and young people through a range of SSRC arrangements, including:

Short-term or overnight stays in group homes

NDIS Short-Term Accommodation (STA)

Host family arrangements involving overnight care

Longer-term residential care settings

Structured residential programs focused on behaviour support

Camps or programs running for three or more nights, funded by the NDIS

SSRC can be arranged not only as a one-off placement during an emergency but also as part of an ongoing, planned support arrangement.

Our Commitment to Safe and Regulated Care

When a child stays overnight for one or more nights, Abled Care and Nursing Services ensures the placement is recorded on the SSRC register. As a result, this shared system tracks the total time a child spends in SSRC across all providers, helping prevent extended stays without appropriate oversight and safeguarding each child’s wellbeing.

How to Get Started with SSRC Support

Step 1: Discuss the Need for SSRC

Speak with your child’s parent, guardian, case manager, or relevant authority to determine whether SSRC is the right support option.

Step 2: Confirm Eligibility & Purpose

Ensure the care is required for respite, behaviour support, emergency support, or is NDIS-funded and meets SSRC requirements.

Step 3: Choose Abled Care and Nursing Services

Select Abled Care and Nursing Services as your SSRC-approved provider to deliver safe and regulated care.

Step 4: Care Planning & Assessment

We work with families and stakeholders to assess care needs, routines, and supports to create a clear SSRC care plan.

Step 5: Placement & Support Matching

The child is matched with an appropriate care setting and trained support staff aligned with their needs and wellbeing.

Step 6: Care Begins With Ongoing Oversight

SSRC services commence, with all stays recorded on the SSRC register to ensure transparency, monitoring, and child safety.
